So midway through writing this editorial I stumbled on a bunch of other articles with the same idea (i.e. Coulson becoming The Vision), however they’re all from like 2012 and 2013. So here’s the same article you may have read two years ago with updated info infused into it. It’s a stretch but it still kinda fits (just like that awesome T-shirt you loved as a kid and is now super tight on you).
If you aren’t aware of who Wonderman is, basically he’s the man who’s consciousness Ultron uploads into a robot creating The Vision. Wonderman gives his life fighting alongside the Avengers (after initially leading them into a trap, but let’s just ignore that part for now…and forever) much like Coulson does in The Avengers.
I’m pretty sure there’s another character named Wonderman in Marvel comics. So if you checked this article out because you thought I was talking about that guy, yeah…sorry it’s not about him (just in-case you hadn’t figured that part out yet).
I know what you’re thinking.
“But Zac, they already brought Coulson back through Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
Right. Through that program that resulted in every patient having psychotic tendencies, just as Coulson does in the show. So, instead of taking the risk of having Coulson lose his mind and having to imprison him or put him down, Fury decides to extract enough of Coulson’s mind that it wouldn’t affect his functionality after exposing him to the program, however what he does remove when combined with the right computer program is enough to make a robot that has a conscious.
Then once the events of The Winter Soldier have taken place and all of the secret S.H.I.E.L.D. files are out in the public. Fury, thinking that the program was a success for Coulson, burns everything in his off the books shipping container of spy shit, including (or so he thinks) everything related to extracting fragments of Coulson’s mind from his body.
However, this is not the case….
An ambitious “S.H.I.E.L.D.” (Hydra) agent (Sitwell, why not) discovers and steals Fury’s documents before he has the chance to destroy them. Now Sitwell (you know before Bucky takes care of him) has all the files sent to a Hydra facility in South Africa where they are protected and untouched.
Cut to Stark tower R&D a few years later where Ultron is preparing to make his big entrance on the Avengers. While researching a rare metal, found only in this African country called Wakanda, he stumbles across this facility rumoured to contain S.H.I.E.L.D. secrets that, with the right kind of A.I. system, can create the ultimate Artificially Intelligent robot. So Ultron crashes The Avengers house party, he puts up a bit of a fight and then takes off to Africa.
Once Ultron takes his little pit stop in Wakanda, he recruits Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch to infiltrate this facility and kill everyone in it. Like pros they accomplish this task with ease, and Ultron finds everything he needs to combine Coulson’s mind fragments with none other than J.A.R.V.I.S. (hence why he sounds like Paul Bettany) that he stole from Stark tower to create The Vision.
From this promo poster it would seem as if Ultron has control over Vision via that little yellow triangle on his forehead. Therefore the Avengers destroy that thing and Vision starts thinking for himself. Kinda like Doc Ock’s inhibitor chip from Spider-Man 2.
Also from this other new promo poster it looks like Ultron may at some point control Iron Man.
Wait…sorry, that’s an older image. Here’s the new one
Well that’s about the end of my speculation. Fun right?
So what are your theories, what do you want to see happen? And share this around with your mates so you can get super excited and then be a little disappointed when you see The Vision’s actual origin for the MCU.
