Everything about this trailer (to me at least) looks great. Even the suit is growing on me, however if you aren’t a fan of the simplicity of his costume I’ve heard (via The weekly Planet podcast episode #70 (got your back guys)) that it’s his “pre-costume, costume” which I think he has a similar (mark I if you will) suit in the comics.
This looks like a great Daredevil stand alone TV show, never-the-less it does reside under the Marvel studios banner. Leaving only one question to ask:
How does this tie into the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Maybe it doesn’t at all, but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard that this and the up coming Luke Cage and Jessica Jones shows are all going to be part of the MCU.
Daredevil, and all those other shows, will probably follow the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. sort of route whereby he exists in the universe but is off doing his own thing. Unlike Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (so far at least) he’ll most likely actually join Cap and Iron Man and the rest of the crew on the silver screen when shit really starts to go down. Say like when…oh I don’t know, some kind of Civil War between superheroes breaks out (wink wink, nudge nudge).
This theory has pretty much been assumed by fans since the rights for these characters returned to Marvel, and was essentially confirmed (if it hasn’t already been) with a witty reference to Iron Man and Thor’s hammer at the end of the trailer.
Like I already mentioned his suit looks fine, however as far as being a bit of a beginner superhero his weapons don’t seem to be too flashy either. He doesn’t appear to have his signature billy club, it looks as if he just has a pair of batons.
They could again tie this into the movies by have Iron Man design him a more technological savvy suit and weapons which could also be a nice reference/switch-a-roo to the fact that he does so for Spider-Man in the comic story line. It would also align with a story based speculation for Civil War that I had never thought or heard of before today, put forward by comic book writer Jim Krueger on AMC theatres first AMC Heroes episode (around the 22:40 mark).
Also: did you guys catch that moment were a young Murdock is grasping at his eyes, probably from the accident that gives him his powers, and a Ryan Reynolds-looking character (presumably his dad) is comforting him. I’m not saying that there’s going to be a Deadpool connection, although that would be amazing, I’m just saying he looks very similar to Ryan Reynolds.
