It’s hard to believe that we (us Aussies anyway) are less than three weeks away from the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron. There has been talk surounding this movie that not everyone will make it through. And if you’re like me, you’ve been getting the feel from the very first trailer that Quicksilver will be the one to bit the dust.
Why the very first trailer you ask? Well, remember that glimpse of a scene we got of Scarlet Witch falling on her knees whilst crying out in pain? Yeah, that scene is highly uncharacteristic of her from what we saw in the rest of the trailer and subsequent trailers thereafter. All other footage we’ve seen of her made her appear to be this badass who’s just there to kick ass and take names. Elizabeth Olsen has said in an interview that the twins are the most important thing in each other’s lives, so it’s not too much of a stretch to suggest that this is how she would react if she lost her close sibling.
On top of that there’s that scene from the end of the third trailer where the Avengers (including scarlet Witch) are protecting something from a swarm of Ultron bots and Quicksilver is nowhere in sight. Now, this is one of the least reputable sources of evidence to suggest that he may die, to me at least. Simply because he could just be racing around just outside of the domain The Avengers are secluded in.
The most recent and most reliable evidence, to give to this notion some validity, is an interview with Aaron Taylor-Johnson conducted by Amirose Eisenbach of AMC. When asked if there’s any potential in a Quicksilver/Scarlet Witch solo movie the actor said the following;
“I wasn’t – I wasn’t thinking, I wasn’t thinking on that line. I thought, if anything, it would be, you know, I don’t know.”
To his credit he does kinda save it by suggesting that Marvel would likely throw them into another character’s run, like say Civil War next year. It would be easier to get a proper read from him if it were a video interview. Going off the words on page alone, it seems like he was dancing around the idea that his character won’t be returning.
If he does die it would be a pretty great middle finger to the X-Men universe to be like, “Yeah Quicksilver’s great, but we don’t even need him.”
Who do you guys think will kick the dust come 23rd of April?
I’m curious as to what your thoughts and justifications are.
