Marvel reveals an important upgrade for our favourite neighbourhood arachnid

Marvel has just released a short video expressing a couple of new features Spidey has to play with, come July. Although there are a few upgrades mentioned in the video, there’s only one of note that we weren’t already aware of, in relation to the web shooters. That upgrade being, “Selectable web types.”

Just what those webs are, we’ll have to wait and see. However, a thought just occurred to me. How would you guys feel about trick webbing?

Kind of like Hawkeye’s trick arrows, but you know…stickier. Maybe there could be an electrified web, maybe a solid rubber bullet-esque projectile, that kind of thing. It’s probably not going to happen, but it’d be a bit of fun.

I always cut the Sam Rami Spider-Man movies a little bit of slack on the topic of webbing variation. Since Maguire’s webs were organic, I guess he could produce whatever type of web he need in the moment. Nevertheless, I’m glad that we’re get a logical and tangible explanation of Peter’s ability for Homecoming.

What do you guys think about Spidey’s upgrades, and how do you feel about a trick webbing proposal?

Jumanji reboot plot details revealed

Thanks to Jeff Sneider from Mashable reporter, we have our first plot details of the reboot of the iconic Jumanji, starring Dwayne Johnson, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black. Sneider tweeted that the film will follow four kids in detention who find, and are sucked into the game. Other tweeter users added that the game will be in the form of an old video game console, and that each kid will have control of one of the main cast members in an avatar fashion.

Dwayne Johnson recently tweeted the younger cast-counterparts welcoming them to the production and dubbing them, “Jumanji Juniors.” The younger cast includes; Alex Wolff, Madison Iseman, Ser’Darius Blain, and Morgan Turner.

I actually really like this new direction of having avatars in the game world. I feel that it gives this reboot enough free rein to create an authentic story in what is a fairly beloved franchise. Given that these are teenage kids controlling this cast of celebrity adults, there’s no doubt that we’re going to get plenty of “Damn, The Rock is buff” jokes, as well as Karen Gillan is hot jokes.

This plot detail revealing that the movie takes place in a video game also explains Karen Gillan’s wardrobe. A lot of people took issue with Gillan’s costume being 6 sizes too small for her when the first set photo was released, but it’s actually a pretty classic, Tomb Raider-esque, female video game character outfit. Whether you like it or not is another story. But given the nature of the game, it does make sense.

It’s hard to say at this point whether-or-not there will be a stampede overflow into reality like the original. I guess they could do it, but the question there would be if the kids still have control over their assigned avatars? I think it’d be fun if the avatars had their own conciseness in the real world, and had little awkward standoff moments with their corresponding kid-counterpart about how they were controlled.

Zack Snyder teases Batman’s new ‘Tactical Batsuit’ for Justice League

That’s right, Zack Snyder just teased Batman’s new “Tactical suit” from the upcoming Justice League, and by teased of course I mean he released an image–he-he put a photo up on Twitter. I guess it’s less of a tease as much as is it is just showing us what the new suit looks like.

But we haven’t seen it in motion yet, so it’s a tease! I’m back on board…with-with myself. Man this post is a mess. I could fix it, but I won’t.

Obviously people are going to make comparisons to Night Owl from Snyder’s Watchmen. To be fair, that’s just because then look pretty much identical.

(The one on the right, obviously. Come on, man)

What’s less interesting is the environment the photo was taken in. Seems to be the Batcave with the Batmobile on the right. Also, Batman is probably switching on his little Bat-Lights and Bat-Computer, with that lever on the left. You should probably call an electrician, mate. Seems unsafe with all those sparks flying about. Who am I kidding, who needs electrical safety with such stylish protective goggles like those.

To be honest, I’m not a big fan of this costume. Maybe in motion it will grow on me, guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Short-list of directors for Marvel/Sony’s Spider-Man

images (10)

Spider-Man is the talk of the town right now and today is no exception. Though thankfully it’s not about casting of the titular character but rather who will direct the film. Deadline has offered up a short-list of directors that are in talks for the task of bring this character to life (for the 3rd time (cinematically at least)).

The short-list of directors is; Johnathan Levine, Ted Melfi, John Francis Daley, Johnathan M Goldstein, and Jon Watts.

A lot of John’s in the mix. Or at least variations of the name. What’s up with that…nothing? Alright then, moving on.

By the sounds of things Daley and Goldstein are in talks to direct in tandem. Which would make sense as they have worked together in the past and are currently working on the reboot/sequel of the beloved Vacation franchise.

Personally, I like Johnathan Levine, 50/50 is one of my favourite movies of all time and Warm Bodies was fantastic. The characterisation of the curious teenager (played by Nicholas Holt) in Warm Bodies was an outstanding element in that movie from both a performance and writing standpoint, and I can see it translating over well to the character of Peter Parker.

There’s really no wrong answer as to who should helm the Spidey movie come 2017 and I certainly don’t envy Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige for having to ultimately decide. But of the proposed, who would you like to see direct the web-slinging-city-slicker?

If you couldn’t tell from the article, I’d back Levine.

[Editorial] Let’s pump the brakes on this whole Spider-Man casting ordeal

So apparently the reports going around that Asa Butterfield nailed the role of Peter Parker were a little unfounded. No surprise there. He’s still in the mix and may indeed get the role. But as was suggested in this title, let’s just step back and relax about it for a second.

Look, when Marvel is ready to announce who’s playing Peter Parker, they’ll announce it. With Civil War very much in production and a stand-alone Spider-man movie set for 2017, I’d be shocked if they haven’t cast him yet. Keep in mind that there’s no confirmation that Spider-Man will in fact be in Civil War, it’s just highly assumed and could very well be true, granted. But if he is going to be in Civil War, it’s very unlikely that Marvel/Sony are still headhunting. I maintain that they should keep who’s been cast under wraps and reveal it to the public in whatever Marvel movie it is he ends up being in before “Spider-Man: Again? Yeah, it’ll be good I swear” comes out in 2017. I don’t think that’s the official title. I’d like it to be, though.

So, here’s the (new) short-list that The Hollywood Reporter have brought to the scene; Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer, and Charlie Rowe.

I’m barely familiar with these young actors, but if I had to take by pick from the list, it’d be Tom Holland. I feel like this kid is mature way beyond his years and would be able to play off the star-studded cast of the MCU very well. Not that the others couldn’t, like I said, just my pick. Also, of the actors on the short-list, he seems the most like Peter Parker to me.

I’m curious, of the 6 listed above, which would be your pick for Spider-man and why?

(RumourVille) Matthew McConaughey in the MCU?

download (13)

Coming off the reports last week that McConaughey has been reading scripts from both DC and Marvel, this whole thing has unravelled.

McConaughey is that high-calibre type of actor that Marvel looks to fill their roles, so I wouldn’t be surprised that he’s in talks for a part. Rumour is that he’s in talks to play Norman Osborn, presumably in the 2017 Spider-Man movie.

Keep in mind this could be total Bull$#%T, I will admit this is a pretty dodgy source. But they did have some pretty accurate information on Age of Ultron from a source in the business weeks prior to any press screening, so who knows. Not me, but I like the notion. How about you, do you think he’s a good fit or is there someone else you’d like to see in the role?

Even if this is true, let’s also keep in mind that just because he’s apparently in talk with Marvel doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen. Honestly, I’m now more interested in what scripts he’s been reading for DC.

Oh, and there’s been some more Civil War set photos. I took the liberty of cherry picking the very best for you guys.

[Editorial] Where are the remaining Infinity Stones/Gems in the MCU?

As you probably know, 4 of the 6 infinity stones have popped up over various Marvel movies since Captain America: The First Avenger. If you’re not quite the super-nerd that the rest of us are, here’s a quick rundown of the 4 gems we’ve seen so far.

  • Kicking of the list with the Tesseract. First seen in Captain America (well…the post credits of Thor, really), but probably more renowned for its use in The Avengers, the tesseract is the Space gem hence its ability to create portals to other ends of the universe.
  • Avengers also introduced us to Loki’s sceptre, which we now know to be the mind stone thanks to Age of Ultron. Ah yeah, spoilers for that part if you haven’t already seen it….sorry.
  • Next up is the Aether A.K.A. the reality gem, probably. Keeping in mind that not all of these have been confirmed by Marvel. To the best of my knowledge only the mind gem has been confirmed, the rest are just implied at this point.
  • Rounding out the 4 gems we’ve seen so far is the Power stone A.K.A. that purple one from Guardians of the Galaxy that can destroy entire planets.

The remaining Gems are the Soul gem and the time gem. Que the wild speculation.

The first thing that popped into my head (which I think is actually pretty tangible) is that the soul gem is contained in Stephen Strange’s Eye of Agamotto. The eye of Agamotto is super complicated artefact with a bunch of its powers and aspects of its origins still not well known. However according to the Eye enables the user with “certain mystical perceptions into another’s soul”. I mean, this is just one of the many uses the Eye has, however it certainly is a connection Marvel could expand on in the 2016 movie.

Adam warlock has the soul gem imbedded into his forehead in the comics and is rumoured to appear in Guardians 2, but having the soul gem in the Eye certainly wouldn’t be the first time movies have altered comics continuity. Also we already have one gem ornamented forehead man (Vision), you can’t have too many bloody “gem-heads” in the universe.

The time gem is a little more of a mystery to me at this point. My two initial bets would be that it will be introduced either in Guardians 2 or in Captain Marvel. But since the power gem was introduced to us via Guardians, I’m leaning more towards the time gem being introduced in Captain Marvel.

From what I gather; Carol Danvers (A.K.A. Captain Marvel) is somewhat of a cosmic character, having run-ins with the Kree and being an aspiring astronaut from her youth. So it wouldn’t be too ridiculous to see an infinity stone arise throughout her adventures.

If you’ve read this far you are probably well aware that when a being brings all 6 gems together in the Infinity Gauntlet, some serious shit is going to go down.  If you have a keen eye (or if you’re like me and have the internet tell you these things) you will have noticed a glimpse of the Infinity Gauntlet in 2011’s Thor.

Kevin Feige has stated in an interview recently that the glove seen in Thor is not the one Thanos has at the end of Age of Ultron. This has stirred a bunch of speculation as to the implications of having two infinity Gauntlets, and that they are likely a pair since the one seen in Thor is a right glove whereas Thanos’ glove is renowned as being left-handed. But most likely; the Gauntlet from Thor was probably nothing more than a tease for fans to see what was coming.
