New images of Fant4stic arise (Really, only one interesting one)

Empire Magazine just released some new images of Josh Trank’s Fant4stic.There’s a pretty average image of the crew all suited up (presumably in the Negative Zone) and we get this really nice, up-close look at The Thing. Also, we get a weirdly sexual image of Miles Teller as Mr Fantastic, maybe it’s Dr Doom, either way I’m not getting into it.

The thing about this image of The Thing is that I really can’t picture Jamie Bell’s voice coming out of this guy’s mouth. Visually he looks great, I love that this is more of a deformed Ben Grimm rather than the smoothly symmetric incarnation from 2005, but I’m still suck at this whole voice road block for now. And I’m just saying, if he doesn’t do much talking in subsequent trailers, I’d take that to be some cause for concern.

These images do get me pretty pumped for the movie though. I really just want to see The Thing “Clobber” someone/thing already.

Are Fant4stic’s cast commentaries damage control?

Fantastic-Four-Movie-Reboot-Team-2015

2015’s Fantastic 4 cast has had its backers and naysayers. 20th Century Fox has just released a couple of 45-60 second clips of commentary to try and convert the latter to the realisation that the cast they’ve recruited are right for their respective roles.

Though I have complete faith in the talent of the cast, I was a little worried from the trailer that some of them might not fit the character all that well. Well it was just Michael B Jordan to be honest. While he’s (in my personal opinion) the most talented of the four, the sombre vibe from the initial trailer just didn’t feel like Johnny Storm.

I guess you could say that about the movie as a whole, regardless Trank’s comments exploring Johnny’s personality are reassuring for me.

Question is; Are these cast commentaries a bit of a damage control move from Fox?

Answer: Well, yeah…probably. I can’t think of another reason as to why they would do such a thing.

As someone who has his doubts about the movie they work pretty well too, however they’re a little poorly timed in my opinion. After the positive buzz from the international trailer, I wouldn’t have thought that the movie needed the boost.

Have these commentaries altered your views of the casting, or were you on board from the beginning?

Fant4stic’s international trailer makes me concerned and excited at the same time

The international trailer for the 2015 Fantastic 4 movie (inexplicably titled Fant4stic) has been released. With only a little bit of new footage to be seen; it’s the scene of the Storm siblings crashing through a rock-like structure that has everyone talking, so…here’s my two cents.

The visual effects for the scene looks pretty good at the moment, and will only get better with the movie not set to be released for another couple of months. However it’s the fact that Sue Storm seemingly takes flight (an aspect of her powers that I wasn’t even aware existed) that is off putting to me.

It could turn out to be that The Thing just lobed her like a javelin, but something tells me that’s not what they’re going for here. Either way, I really like the visual representation of Sue’s shield (or barrier, or whatever) in full effect.

P.S. Am I the only one who thinks that Johnny’s flames originate from his ass when he “flames on”?

Yes…alright then.

[Editorial] Why The Thing rocking his birthday suit is weird

Fantastic-Four-Movie-Reboot-Team-2015

So one of the most unusual aspects of the Fant4stic trailer that a bunch of people picked up on, was the fact that The Thing was missing his classic pants. And that, you know, he was missing clothes altogether.

The strange thing about this is that the cosmic rays he’s exposed to (or however the team will get their powers in this movie) doesn’t alter the fact that he is a human being. Rather it, using comic book logic, forces his bone structure, internal organs, and skin to increase in density and strength with this rock-like substance. Being a humanoid “Thing” he should still have all the same male features that he did before becoming The Thing.

And I mean sure, it looks like they’re going with a very different take on the transformation of the character. From the cacoon-like structure we see The Thing breaking out of in the trailer, and the banner we first saw about a week ago, it seems like there’s more of an emphasis on the fact that Ben Grimm’s transformation is more of a deformity. Perhaps a part of this deformation includes him having more Ken doll-like properties, if you know what I mean.

Either way, you’d think out of decency he would cover up.

Miles Teller has come out and told Screen Crush that we’ll be seeing the classic suits in the movie, so hopefully that will include Ben getting some shorts. Or maybe even that sweet one piece tank top suit he has from the Ultimates comic arc (which this movie is supposable taking inspiration from).

Man I hope not.

Overall I’m looking forward to this rendition of the Character. How about you? Are you on board with this version of The Thing, or is it a bit too weird for you?
