Jennifer Lawrence wants to play Mystique in the MCU before doing another X-Men movie

During the press junket for Passengers, Lawrence was asked by MTV how she would feel about Joining her co-star in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. Lawrence responded;

“I would choose that over doing another X-Men…I won’t be Mystique in the X-Men movies, but I would love to be Mystique in Guardians of the Galaxy.”

Given the tone of the interview, it’s clear that this was meant as playful banter with an interviewer. But at the same time…get S@#T on 20th Century Fox.

Now, I’m sure I don’t have to reiterate to any of you that this isn’t going to happen. Spider-man joining the MCU was a one-off that occurred due to Sony’s financial situation.

Fox, on the other hand, is doing quite well with the X-Men franchise. Or, at least, well enough that they don’t need to trade off creative rights to their characters whilst maintaining revenue from them.

An army of Ant-Men in new extended TV Spot?

This title may be a bit of click bait I’ll admit, it’s hard to say definitively. But there’s definitely a collective group of flying ant’s following Ant-Man out of a cargo plane, by the looks of things?

Regardless, there seems to be something on the back of each of those fly ants. If it turns out that they are indeed people, it begs the question; what makes Ant-Man so special? If literally anyone can dawn a suit and shrink down, why should we be rooting for Scott Lang? I bet it’s because of his great comedic wit.

I like the simple dismiss of the possibility of asking the Avengers for help in this spot. I feel like the message there was;

“Shut up about it!”

Which is really the best and only explanation we need.

But what’s up with the pause in music when Ant-Man clings onto the gun? I get that they were trying to make the gun shot more impactful, but it just ended up being a little jarring overall for the spot.

Anyway, pretty good spot overall and it’s doing its job which is getting me psyched to see the movie.

Short-list of directors for Marvel/Sony’s Spider-Man

images (10)

Spider-Man is the talk of the town right now and today is no exception. Though thankfully it’s not about casting of the titular character but rather who will direct the film. Deadline has offered up a short-list of directors that are in talks for the task of bring this character to life (for the 3rd time (cinematically at least)).

The short-list of directors is; Johnathan Levine, Ted Melfi, John Francis Daley, Johnathan M Goldstein, and Jon Watts.

A lot of John’s in the mix. Or at least variations of the name. What’s up with that…nothing? Alright then, moving on.

By the sounds of things Daley and Goldstein are in talks to direct in tandem. Which would make sense as they have worked together in the past and are currently working on the reboot/sequel of the beloved Vacation franchise.

Personally, I like Johnathan Levine, 50/50 is one of my favourite movies of all time and Warm Bodies was fantastic. The characterisation of the curious teenager (played by Nicholas Holt) in Warm Bodies was an outstanding element in that movie from both a performance and writing standpoint, and I can see it translating over well to the character of Peter Parker.

There’s really no wrong answer as to who should helm the Spidey movie come 2017 and I certainly don’t envy Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige for having to ultimately decide. But of the proposed, who would you like to see direct the web-slinging-city-slicker?

If you couldn’t tell from the article, I’d back Levine.

One minute Ant-Man TV Spot

I don’t know about you, but whenever I see these kind of articles for Ant-Man I steer clear of them, because they always say that the spot contains new footage and it’s almost never true. It’s true this time! Unless you’re reading this a few months after it’s been posted or after you’ve seen Ant-Man. In which case…why?

Honestly, this is the first promotional material that’s actually getting me excited to see the movie. The music probably has a big part to play there. Speaking of…interesting choice of music here. 2020 by Suuns, pretty good. There’s a couple of moments in the spot where it is a little more dominate than I’d necessarily like, but for the most part it works really well.

There’s one scene teased in this spot that I want to see more than the rest. That being the shot of Ant-Man diving over the hood of a car, classic action movie trope. The difference here being that it actually a model replicate of a car. As if they set up a model representation of the scene and went;

“You know what, let’s just film it like this.”

Seems a little fourth-wall breaking, but I love that. I want to know the context of that already.

I really like Michael Pena and I think he’s going to be fantastic in this. However, I’m curious as to how much of a role he’s going to have in this movie. In the first trailer we saw a shot of him in a suit with a machine gun and in other short clips we’ve seen him helping out Paul Rudd’s, Scott Lang in a heist scene.

Clearly he’s a close friend of Scott’s. Hopefully the movie doesn’t focus on their friendship at the beginning and then just kind of forget about Pena towards the end. The shot in which he’s rocking the suit and gun suggests that that won’t be the case, I just have a bit of a feeling about this. Let’s hope I’m wrong.

[Editorial] Let’s pump the brakes on this whole Spider-Man casting ordeal

download (17)

So apparently the reports going around that Asa Butterfield nailed the role of Peter Parker were a little unfounded. No surprise there. He’s still in the mix and may indeed get the role. But as was suggested in this title, let’s just step back and relax about it for a second.

Look, when Marvel is ready to announce who’s playing Peter Parker, they’ll announce it. With Civil War very much in production and a stand-alone Spider-man movie set for 2017, I’d be shocked if they haven’t cast him yet. Keep in mind that there’s no confirmation that Spider-Man will in fact be in Civil War, it’s just highly assumed and could very well be true, granted. But if he is going to be in Civil War, it’s very unlikely that Marvel/Sony are still headhunting. I maintain that they should keep who’s been cast under wraps and reveal it to the public in whatever Marvel movie it is he ends up being in before “Spider-Man: Again? Yeah, it’ll be good I swear” comes out in 2017. I don’t think that’s the official title. I’d like it to be, though.

So, here’s the (new) short-list that The Hollywood Reporter have brought to the scene; Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer, and Charlie Rowe.

I’m barely familiar with these young actors, but if I had to take by pick from the list, it’d be Tom Holland. I feel like this kid is mature way beyond his years and would be able to play off the star-studded cast of the MCU very well. Not that the others couldn’t, like I said, just my pick. Also, of the actors on the short-list, he seems the most like Peter Parker to me.

I’m curious, of the 6 listed above, which would be your pick for Spider-man and why?

(RumourVille) Matthew McConaughey in the MCU?

download (13)

Coming off the reports last week that McConaughey has been reading scripts from both DC and Marvel, this whole thing has unravelled.

McConaughey is that high-calibre type of actor that Marvel looks to fill their roles, so I wouldn’t be surprised that he’s in talks for a part. Rumour is that he’s in talks to play Norman Osborn, presumably in the 2017 Spider-Man movie.

Keep in mind this could be total Bull$#%T, I will admit this is a pretty dodgy source. But they did have some pretty accurate information on Age of Ultron from a source in the business weeks prior to any press screening, so who knows. Not me, but I like the notion. How about you, do you think he’s a good fit or is there someone else you’d like to see in the role?

Even if this is true, let’s also keep in mind that just because he’s apparently in talk with Marvel doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen. Honestly, I’m now more interested in what scripts he’s been reading for DC.

Oh, and there’s been some more Civil War set photos. I took the liberty of cherry picking the very best for you guys.

Curious attire for Cap and Agent 13 on set of Civil War

A few images of Cap and Agent 13 hit the internet today, courtesy of Just Jared. Anthony Mackie’s Falcon also popped up, but there’s not really much to say there other than…sweet.

On the other hand; Cap and Agent 13’s attire is very interesting. The clothes that Chris Evans and Emily VanCamp are wearing are dark and gloomy, insinuating that they are attending a funeral. Very reminiscent of the few funeral scenes in the comic. The question is; is this funeral scene for the collateral damage at the beginning of the story, or is it for the death of a hero?

My first thought would be the collateral damage option, however given this image (below) it looks like Cap may even conduct the eulogy. Seems a little too personal for the former, but then again it is Cap we’re talking about here.

FtSGIWo

I don’t know about you guys, but to me, these images provide evidence to the notion that Cap and Stark’s opinions on the registration act will be the inverse of what there were in the comic. That is to say; Cap will be for the registration and Stark will be against it.

Keep in mind that this is pure speculation at this point, but given Stark’s track record of not being all about the government, and that these images mirror scenes from the comic that seem to replace Stark with Cap, it kind of makes sense.

Also there’s this…

*EXCLUSIVE* **SHOT ON 5/1315** Atlanta, GA - Chris Evans has a laugh with a crew member while checking out his last scene on the small screen before shooting another take, today he looked dapper wearing a dark suit with matching dress shoes. Pretty sure this is just an in between scenes shot (as all of these probably are), but I hope they play into this a little bit. You know, like Cap is listening to the Troubleman album or something.
