Marvel reveals an important upgrade for our favourite neighbourhood arachnid

Marvel has just released a short video expressing a couple of new features Spidey has to play with, come July. Although there are a few upgrades mentioned in the video, there’s only one of note that we weren’t already aware of, in relation to the web shooters. That upgrade being, “Selectable web types.”

Just what those webs are, we’ll have to wait and see. However, a thought just occurred to me. How would you guys feel about trick webbing?

Kind of like Hawkeye’s trick arrows, but you know…stickier. Maybe there could be an electrified web, maybe a solid rubber bullet-esque projectile, that kind of thing. It’s probably not going to happen, but it’d be a bit of fun.

SPIDER-MAN 3

I always cut the Sam Rami Spider-Man movies a little bit of slack on the topic of webbing variation. Since Maguire’s webs were organic, I guess he could produce whatever type of web he need in the moment. Nevertheless, I’m glad that we’re get a logical and tangible explanation of Peter’s ability for Homecoming.

What do you guys think about Spidey’s upgrades, and how do you feel about a trick webbing proposal?

Short-list of directors for Marvel/Sony’s Spider-Man

images (10)

Spider-Man is the talk of the town right now and today is no exception. Though thankfully it’s not about casting of the titular character but rather who will direct the film. Deadline has offered up a short-list of directors that are in talks for the task of bring this character to life (for the 3rd time (cinematically at least)).

The short-list of directors is; Johnathan Levine, Ted Melfi, John Francis Daley, Johnathan M Goldstein, and Jon Watts.

A lot of John’s in the mix. Or at least variations of the name. What’s up with that…nothing? Alright then, moving on.

By the sounds of things Daley and Goldstein are in talks to direct in tandem. Which would make sense as they have worked together in the past and are currently working on the reboot/sequel of the beloved Vacation franchise.

jonathan-levine-615

Personally, I like Johnathan Levine, 50/50 is one of my favourite movies of all time and Warm Bodies was fantastic. The characterisation of the curious teenager (played by Nicholas Holt) in Warm Bodies was an outstanding element in that movie from both a performance and writing standpoint, and I can see it translating over well to the character of Peter Parker.

There’s really no wrong answer as to who should helm the Spidey movie come 2017 and I certainly don’t envy Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige for having to ultimately decide. But of the proposed, who would you like to see direct the web-slinging-city-slicker?

If you couldn’t tell from the article, I’d back Levine.

Short-list of directors for Marvel/Sony’s Spider-Man

[Editorial] Let’s pump the brakes on this whole Spider-Man casting ordeal

So apparently the reports going around that Asa Butterfield nailed the role of Peter Parker were a little unfounded. No surprise there. He’s still in the mix and may indeed get the role. But as was suggested in this title, let’s just step back and relax about it for a second.

Look, when Marvel is ready to announce who’s playing Peter Parker, they’ll announce it. With Civil War very much in production and a stand-alone Spider-man movie set for 2017, I’d be shocked if they haven’t cast him yet. Keep in mind that there’s no confirmation that Spider-Man will in fact be in Civil War, it’s just highly assumed and could very well be true, granted. But if he is going to be in Civil War, it’s very unlikely that Marvel/Sony are still headhunting. I maintain that they should keep who’s been cast under wraps and reveal it to the public in whatever Marvel movie it is he ends up being in before “Spider-Man: Again? Yeah, it’ll be good I swear” comes out in 2017. I don’t think that’s the official title. I’d like it to be, though.

So, here’s the (new) short-list that The Hollywood Reporter have brought to the scene; Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Judah Lewis, Matthew Lintz, Charlie Plummer, and Charlie Rowe.

I’m barely familiar with these young actors, but if I had to take by pick from the list, it’d be Tom Holland. I feel like this kid is mature way beyond his years and would be able to play off the star-studded cast of the MCU very well. Not that the others couldn’t, like I said, just my pick. Also, of the actors on the short-list, he seems the most like Peter Parker to me.

I’m curious, of the 6 listed above, which would be your pick for Spider-man and why?

(RumourVille) Matthew McConaughey in the MCU?

download (13)

Coming off the reports last week that McConaughey has been reading scripts from both DC and Marvel, this whole thing has unravelled.

McConaughey is that high-calibre type of actor that Marvel looks to fill their roles, so I wouldn’t be surprised that he’s in talks for a part. Rumour is that he’s in talks to play Norman Osborn, presumably in the 2017 Spider-Man movie.

Keep in mind this could be total Bull$#%T, I will admit this is a pretty dodgy source. But they did have some pretty accurate information on Age of Ultron from a source in the business weeks prior to any press screening, so who knows. Not me, but I like the notion. How about you, do you think he’s a good fit or is there someone else you’d like to see in the role?

Even if this is true, let’s also keep in mind that just because he’s apparently in talk with Marvel doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to happen. Honestly, I’m now more interested in what scripts he’s been reading for DC.

Oh, and there’s been some more Civil War set photos. I took the liberty of cherry picking the very best for you guys.

[Editorial] Spider-Man NOT in Captain America: Civil War?

images (10)

Marvel recently gave us a rather comprehensive list of actors/characters that will be appearing in the highly anticipated Captain America sequel, However there are a few characters that haven’t made the cut. The most noted absence in the cast release was of course, Spider-Man. Other than the fact that this isn’t a final cast list, his absence could be due to numerous reasons…

The first of which being that he may not be in the movie at all. Yes, it’s well known that he will appear in a Marvel movie prior to his solo outing, and yes, it’s more likely to be in Civil War than Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, or Guardians 2. However, it is still unconfirmed exactly which movie the new Spidey will pop up in or the magnitude of the role. It’s entirely possible that he could appear in nothing more than a post-credits scene, in a similar vein of the fake Spider-Man scene that was rumoured to be attached to AoU.

Just to reiterate; it’s fake, Joss Whedon confirmed its illegitimacy at a press conference in Europe.

The other reason would be that he hasn’t been cast yet. As of yet, Marvel haven’t revealed who is going to play Peter Parker let alone what movie he will appear in. Rumour is that Marvel has two scripts for Civil War; one containing Spider-Man and one without him. If this is in fact true, it would seem that he would only have a small role (if any) in the movie.

The third, and purely speculated reason that I have and choose to believe until proven otherwise is; an actor has landed the role of Peter Parker and Marvel is just going to sit on it for a while.

“That seems pretty logical. Where’s the speculation in all of that?”-You

Well, what I hope they’ll do is have Spider-Man in Civil War (in a minor role) and reveal the actor playing him in the movie rather than an official announcement. I feel like that would be a nice little surprise coming from someone who follows cast news fairly closely. Also, it would be a cool adaptation Spidey’s identity reveal from the comic in an interesting way rather than just regurgitating the same scenario on the big screen.

I hope we get more of this guy (played by Aaron Himelstein). He had brief but great roles in Winter Soldier and Age of Ultron as a random S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. He’s already a personal favourite of mine, and with a little more screen time I can easily see him becoming a fan favourite as well.

And Quicksilver’s not on the list either. I wonder why that is? Man…he must be busy…rebuilding Sokovia…or something. Am I right…guys?

[Editorial] Spider-Man NOT in Captain America: Civil War?

The final two contenders to become the new Spider-Teen

images (10)

If you’ve been keeping up with all the Marvel casting news surrounding Spider-Man that’s being going around lately, you’ll know that there has been a short-list of actors that are supposably in talks for the role. The list included; Timothee Chamalet, Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland, Nat Wolff, and Liam James.

Now, Devin Faraci from Badass Digest is saying (according to his sources) it’s down to Asa Butterfield and Tom Holland.

Other than doing a quick YouTube search, I have seen absolutely nothing Holland has done and as for Butterfield; I’ve only seen Enders Game, which I didn’t really like him in. I know that you can’t really judge an actor’s ability from just one performance so who knows, maybe he’d be a great Peter Parker, but for now I’m backing Holland.

images (11)

I feel like this kid will be able to hold his own up against the likes of Robert Downey Jr and the rest of the Marvel crew. Again, that’s not to say Butterfield couldn’t, I just think Holland would be a bit better at it. And judging from a couple of interviews and other assortments of videos I’ve checked out recently, Holland expresses similar mannerisms you’d expect to see from a Peter Parker, so it feels like a natural fit.

However, since Latino Review has reported that “Marvel had liked [Butterfield] since day one”, this may be a little out of reach. I remain hopeful though.

Considering the new Spider-Man is reportedly needed on set on Civil War in the next few weeks for shooting, it wouldn’t surprise me if Marvel have already cast the role and just haven’t released the information publicly yet.

[Editorial] Could Andrew Garfield return as Peter Parker?

AndrewGarfield

On a recent episode of AMC Mail Bag, John Campea brought up the very good point; that there actually hasn’t been any official confirmation that Garfield won’t return to the franchise, and that all the info coming out about casting has been purely based on rumours.

In all likely hood, Garfield won’t be returning. However, for the sake of argument let’s just say that he is. Here’s my take on how it could happen.

milesmorales.0

I know very little about the Miles Morales character, which is probably why I’m so keen to see him brought to the big screen. We’ve had two different cinematic interpretations of Peter Parker in the last ten years, time to which it up. The thing about Morales’ origin is that Peter Parker has a large role to play.

What I would love to see is that Miles Morales is the iteration of Spider-Man in the MCU movie that the character we appear in before his stand alone in 2017. Then when 2017 comes around, you can flesh out that relationship between Miles and Peter with Garfield reprising his role from the Amazing Spider-Man films as a supporting character.

So: If this is the case (it won’t be, but still) who would you like to play Miles Morales?

Of all the actors I’ve heard suggested for the role by fans, Roshon Fegan looks like the best fit.
